Matthew Nichols


Matthew Nichols is Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of Residential Credit at Pretium where he is responsible for the management of the residential mortgage whole loan business. Pretium is Deephaven’s parent company.

Mr. Nichols, who founded Deephaven in 2012, also serves as its Executive Chairman. Mr. Nichols joined Pretium in 2019 with 20 years of experience in the U.S. mortgage market. Prior to founding Deephaven, he held the position of Managing Director at Goldman Sachs where he co-led the residential mortgage loan business.

John Keratsis


Mr. Keratsis joined Deephaven in early 2021 to help lead the organization forward and upward through its next level of growth and expansion. His entrepreneurial spirit and tireless drive, coupled with his business acumen and strategic instincts, make him a natural fit for Deephaven’s dynamic culture. Mr. Keratsis is a front-line senior executive constantly ideating with and implementing products, services and technologies that enable Deephaven to continuously grow its share of the independent mortgage market by delivering a competitive advantage directly into the hands of our brokers and correspondent lenders.

Mike Witt

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Witt is the CFO of Deephaven Mortgage. Prior to Deephaven, Mike was CFO at Boston National Title where he helped them grow from a regional provider into one of the nation’s largest, independent title services companies. Mike’s extensive mortgage leadership experience includes division CFO roles at HSBC and First Union, and senior finance or credit risk roles at HSBC, Bank of America, First Union, and NationsBank. He holds a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia.

F.M. “Dank” Pinckney

General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer

Dank Pinckney joined Deephaven in January 2015 as the General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer. In this role, he is responsible for legal and regulatory compliance, counter risk and vendor management (including Deephaven’s sub-servicer) and human resources.

Prior to Deephaven, he served as EVP for HSBC Holdings, PLC as head of general compliance and counterparty risk and part of the executive management team that oversaw all aspects of managing the HSBC and third party owned mortgage portfolios. He was formerly a partner in the national law firm of Katten Muchin Rosenman, specializing in mortgage, consumer finance and counter party risk.

Dank is a licensed attorney in the state of North Carolina and received his J.D. from University of South Carolina and undergraduate degree from Washington & Lee University. He is married with three children.

Matt Lehnen

Chief Technical Officer

Mr. Lehnen oversees all aspects of Deephaven’s technology infrastructure, customer service delivery platform and cybersecurity program. In particular, he is responsible for continuously advancing the Deephaven technology posture to create stronger synergy between our business, our products and our customers. Prior to Deephaven, Matt served as the VP of Information Technology at Wyndham Capital for 11 years where he oversaw infrastructure, security, and mortgage software. He has over 15 years of experience in the technology field and holds several industry certifications. Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida.

Jeff Burrus

SVP, wholesale

Mr. Burrus is the SVP, Wholesale Sales & Operations at Deephaven Mortgage. Prior to Deephaven, Jeff was a Client Service Delivery Lead at Accenture Credit Services where he ran a large operation group for five years. Jeff also held the position of Vice President of Production at EquiFirst where he ran the largest and most profitable branch for the company for both sales and operations originating non-agency paper for 13 years. He holds a B.S. of Science in Business from Elon University.

Shelly Griffin

Senior Vice President of Client Development

Shelly’s energy and drive, combined with her deep experience in the mortgage business, have earned her the respect and appreciation of colleagues and customers alike. As Senior Vice President of Client Development, her profound knowledge of loan processing and underwriting translates into confident, long-term client relationships within both delegated and non-delegated channels. Shelly also has a passion for training and team-building that makes her a terrific mentor to our next generation of professionals. Shelly first joined Deephaven in 2014 and has helped innumerable independent mortgage bankers successfully roll out non-agency products for their organizations.

Lou Esposito

Senior Vice President, Correspondent Channel

Lou is a 20+ year industry veteran with the ability to drive big-picture business strategies while advancing our daily service delivery to the correspondent channel. He has a proven track record for applying creativity and know-how in support of Deephaven’s correspondent sales and growth goals. Lou’s communication skills and personable management style help create strong relationships between his clients and our internal stakeholders. At the same time, he adds significant value to our risk management strategies and capital markets relationships. Prior to joining Deephaven, Lou held senior sales management positions at Fannie Mae, United Guaranty, Lender Processing Services, and GMAC-RFC.

Lewis Semones

Independent Director

Mr. Semones serves on Deephaven Mortgage’s Board of Directors. Mr. Semones is a retired executive who serves on Boards, provides consulting services to financial institutions, and is an active investor. Prior to retirement, Mr. Semones served as EVP for Lender Processing Services, CEO of Avelo Mortgage (a Goldman Sachs company involved in the acquisition, origination, and servicing oversight of residential mortgage loans) and founded two financial services companies. From 1999 to 2001, Mr. Semones was Co-President of Wachovia Securities, the successor to Interstate Johnson Lane where he served in various executive roles from 1990 to 1999.

Mr. Semones received his B.A. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from Lenoir-Rhyne University and is a graduate of the Securities Industry Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
